A midlife enhancement radar system for the F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter, the AN/APG-68 is another example of a "spiral evolution" electronic system; the current version is the AN/APG-68 V(9). Earlier versions can accept the V(9) replacement kit. The first version was limited to air-to-air operation at shorter range than V(1). Even so, V(1) was an enhancement over the AN-AN/APG-65 in the first F-16s in service.

This radar shares a number of Line Replaceable Units with the AN/APQ-164 system on the B-1 Lancer.

Features introduced in the latest version include synthetic aperture radar and longer-range air search radar. It also reduces power, weight, and cooling, as well as support resources. It is compatible with the LITENING II electro-optical targeting system, and with electronic warfare systems including the AN/ALQ-131, AN/ALQ-165 Airborne Self Protection Jammer (ASPJ), and the Advanced Self-Protection Integrated Suite (ASPIS).
