Islamist
From Citizendium, the Citizens' Compendium
An Islamist is a Muslim committed to the establishment of a theocracy under Sharia. The means of establishing such a theocracy may be through a democratic process, through nonviolent subversion (e.g., a coup), or through violence.
It is not synonymous with militant Islam, as there are Islamic parties in democracies. Nevertheless, democracy is not compatible with Islamist government once established, as, with varying levels of strictness interpretation, religious law always supercedes laws made by men. It is understood that religious law may need interpretation; different Islamist groups differ on the authority to interpret.
Such a person or group is opposed to secular government but not necessarily modernization (i.e., not necessarily Salafist).
