Kimberly Kagan
Kimberly Kagan is the founder and President of the Institute for the Study of War, an educationally oriented military think tank, of which the chairman of the board is Liz Cheney. She is a military historian, and a current member of the Strategic Assessment Group advising GEN Stanley McChrystal, commander in the Afghanistan War (2001-2021). She has also done multiple field assessments for the commander of Multi-National Force-Iraq.
She has taught at the United States Military Academy, Yale University, the Center for Peace and Security Studies of Georgetown University, and American University.
Dr. Kagan is the spouse of Frederick Kagan, a major author of the "Surge" in the Iraq War. Robert Kagan of the Weeky Standard is her brother-in-law and another surge advocate. These relationships were not disclosed in the Weekly Standard's review of the Surge, although she is a recognized expert in the field.[1] The family is known for neoconservatism.
