: He hasn't just done the movie; he has been playing the Doctor on BBC radio and in CD plays for many years; also, since BBC publicity declared Eccleston the ninth Doctor, that makes McGann the eighth, and thus part of the official continuation. Added to that, his image has been used by the BBC for years. John Stephenson 03:59, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

'Classic series' is subjective, and gives the impression that it is now finished. It would seem better to simply move it to 'Doctor Who', or maybe 'Doctor Who (television series)'. --Tom Morris 14:27, 16 May 2008 (CDT)
:'Classic series' is how fans refer to the series as broadcast from 1963-1989, and the 1996 movie - broadly, anything before its 2005 relaunch. I split the Wikipedia page in two partly to distinguish us from Wikipedia and partly for the sake of new viewers who might not want to wade through tons of stuff about serials broadcast thirty years before they were born. It could be renamed 'original series', I suppose, but it would be a bit odd as no-one refers to it like that. John Stephenson 03:54, 18 May 2008 (CDT) |
