Welcome!
Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! Hayford Peirce 16:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Some ideas for contributions
Hi Kevin, welcome aboard CZ. Hayford has already given you some hints as to how things work here in general, and I wish to add some more practical suggestions on what possibilities you have to contribute. For a start, I just took some of the keywords from the information you supplied upon registration, and display below the current state of related CZ articles (for icon documentation, see Template:Rpl/Doc):
- Education [r]: Learning, teaching, research and scholarship activities for the purpose of organizing, presenting and acquiring knowledge, skills or social norms. [e]
- New South Wales [r]: Most populous Australian state, whose capital city is Sydney. [e]
- Australia [r]: Continent in the Southern Hemisphere and the federal parliamentary nation that occupies it. [e]
- Matriculation [r]: Add brief definition or description
- High school [r]: Add brief definition or description
- Secondary education [r]: Add brief definition or description
- Student [r]: Add brief definition or description
- University [r]: A type of institution that provides higher or tertiary education. [e]
- Online encyclopedia [r]: An Internet-based structured collection of knowledge, inspired by the concept of traditional paper encyclopedias. [e]
- Knowledge [r]: On one common account by philosophers, justified, true belief; often used in a looser way by everyone else to mean any truth or belief, and also a whole body of truth or a whole system of belief. [e]
- Music [r]: The art of structuring time by combining sound and silence into rhythm, harmonies and melodies. [e]
- Rock music [r]: A form of popular music with a prominent vocal melody, accompanied by guitar, drums, and bass, usually with a strong back beat, which evolved from earlier rock and roll and rockabilly music styles. [e]
- Pop music [r]: A music genre that features a noticeable rhythmic element, melodies and hooks, a mainstream style and a conventional structure. [e]
In order to find articles dealing with similar topics, it's also worth looking at the Related Article subpages of such an article (or the [r]).
Furthermore, in case you are involved in homework assignments (or developing a general policy with regard to them), please consider taking a look at Eduzendium.
Finally, you can help future newcomers by giving your feedback on the above suggestions. To do so, please leave a note on my talk page.
Looking forward to fruitful collaborative editing, --Daniel Mietchen 22:18, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
