I understand the responsibilities of Citizendium’s Managing Editor position as described in the Charter, and I recognize that the wording of the description allows the interpretation of latitude both in discharging the position’s responsibilities and in developing the role of the position, a benefit and a requirement in particular with the birth of a new position. I accept the nomination and intend to serve for two years if elected. I would plan to seek advice and counsel, and assistance, from those Citizens I have come to respect in part for their wisdom.

I would like also to work closely, ex officio, with both Editorial and Management Councils, both to fully understand their agendas and assist them in achieving their goals, respecting their autonomy as a requirement for the further growth and development of Citizendium.

As a 40+ year veteran of academia, I have had the opportunity at different times to serve terms as managing editor of two in-house print publications, and have held leadership positions as committee chairs and as director of a large multi-investigator research organization. I would not come to the position of Citizendium’s Managing Editor completely naïve.

I have contributed actively to Citizendium as editor and author since the early days of its pilot program. I avidly support the enterprise. My intellectual interests span a wide spectrum that includes chemistry, biology, medicine, history, linguistics, nutrition, evolutionary biology, philosophy of mind, and teaching, interests that I hope will provide perspective in discharging the responsibilities of the Managing Editor position.
