The United States Department of State is a cabinet level agency of the United States government, responsible for the USA's foreign relations.[1][2] The Secretary of State is the cabinet officer responsible for the Department. The department is one of the three original departments created by the United States Congress in 1789.[3]

Condoleezza Rice, the current Secretary of State, was appointed on January 26, 2005.[2]
