Immature, nucleated erythrocytes occupying the stage of erythropoiesis that follows formation of erythroid precursor cells and precedes formation of reticulocytes. The normal series is called normoblasts. Cells called megaloblasts are a pathologic series of erythroblasts. (National Library of Medicine)
