A multi-sport event is a gathering of athletes in one place over a period of one to several days for the purpose of entering into competition, often on the basis of national teams having been formed. The classic example is the Olympic Games which is quadrennial, like the Commonwealth Games and others, though some events are annual, biennial, etc.
