The Kansas City Royals are a Major League Baseball team based in Kansas City, [[Missouri]]. The team was founded in 1969 as an expansion team in the American League. [1]
Championships
The team has had a total of two championship-winning seasons in the modern era (1901 and later) of major-league baseball, winning the World Series in 1985 and 2015. They were also American League champions, but lost in the World Series, 2 times, in 1980 and 2014. [2]
Locations
The team has been based in Kansas City since its inception in 1969. They have played their home games at the following stadiums.[3]
- 1969-1972: Municipal Stadium
- 1973-present: Royals Stadium, renamed Kaufman Stadium on July 2, 1993
