- Welcome to Citizendium beta!
The Citizendium (sit-ih-ZEN-dee-um), a "citizens' compendium of everything," is an experimental new wiki project. The project, started by a founder of Wikipedia, aims to improve on that model by adding "gentle expert oversight" and requiring contributors to use their real names.
As of March 25, 2007, we were working on over 1,100 articles.
One of our projects these days is The Big Cleanup. It's a good way to get acquainted with our work and help out.

Hint: look to the left for other important links.
For technical problems:
- To edit pages, you need to get a contributor account.
- If you get an odd error message, or a page won't load or update, do a "hard refresh" (ctrl-F5 in Windows) of the page you're trying to view.
- If changes to another page (like a template) affects the display of a page, you may have to make a trivial edit, such as adding a space, to page you want to update. This is because we have caching turned on during launch.
- If you are still having trouble, mail constables@citizendium.org immediately. Bug reports go to bugs@citizendium.org (but we'll know about any obvious bugs).

The Citizendium is like a lively bazaar, with authors and expert editors doing vigorous trade in words. Editors do not give top-down orders; they offer the occasional word of direction or advice, and can approve articles in their areas of expertise. Constables, whose main job is to get new folks on board, also ensure everything runs smoothly. These are all volunteers, contributing their time, energy, and professional expertise in support of a shared vision.
