Mining2.gif(280 × 557 pixels, file size: 61 KB, MIME type: image/gif)

Imagined view "from above" of a mined seam of coal. Children in coal-mining areas sometimes can't resist exploring old drift mines, which can be especially dangerous. It is essential that such mines remain safely sealed from human exploration. Early mining methods led to irregularly spaced supports, which often were not even represented on maps at all, or were represented inaccurately. Modern mines have regular supports at safe intervals of known thickness.
