Peshawar city

Peshawar is the capital of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and it was the capital of the former North-West Frontier Province. In the 2000s, it had an estimated population of 2.4 million Pakistanis and 400,000 Afghans, spread over 1.257 square kilometres.

Earthquake zone

The city is in a seismically active area and has suffered major earthquakes.[1]

History

Peshawar was founded by the Kushan kings of Gandhara. Emperor Babar of the Moghul Empire came to Peshawar in 1530. The city's name is derived from a Sanskrit word 'Pushpapura', meaning the city of flowers, and its flowers were mentioned in Babar's memoirs.
