Cardiology

Cardiology is a specialty of internal medicine, which is concerned with maintaining the health of the circulatory system as well as diagnosing and treating its disorders. Hematology deals with the blood itself; cardiology deals with the movement of the blood and lymph.

Graduate Medical Education

To be board-eligible in cardiology, one completes an internal medicine or pediatrics residency, and then a typically three-year cardiology fellowship. At that point, the cardiologist is board-eligible in general cardiology.

The field, however, recognizes distinct tertiary subspecialties, and, in practice, quarternary skills.
