Gene Wolfe (1931 – 2019) was an influential American science fiction writer and author of The Book of the New Sun.[1] He was a veteran of the Korean War, and, subsequently, spent most of his life as a full time editor of technical journals, in engineering. However, he routinely spent an hour working on his science fiction stories, prior to going to work.

He also published the book The Island of Doctor Death and Other Stories and Other Stories (1980) and short story The Death of Doctor Island (1973).
