This list uses the American system of numbering, with non-consecutive terms of office counted as if they were separate people. Our PMs aren't usually numbered at all, but my impression is that when they are they are counted as individuals only, so that Gladstone counts as 1 PM, not 4. Forget it. Google gives 54,600 hits for Theresa may 76th prime minister & 6 hits for Theresa may 54th prime minister . Peter Jackson (talk) 11:58, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Radio 4's 6 o'clock news, announcing his appointment, called him 55th, which revived my interest in the question. I've just done a Google search for Boris Johnson nth prime minister for a variety of values of n.

  • The most popular is 77, with 34,200.
  • All numbers from 55 to 58, as well as 78 and 79, get 20,000 plus
  • 54, 59, 76, 80, and presumably more remote answers, get single figures.

Pretty weird. Part of the problem is that the post didn't officially exist before 1905, so there are different lists. Our list differs from Wikipedia's, for example.

I suggest we simply delete numbering. Peter Jackson (talk) 10:42, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
