Cantharellus cibarius is a fungus in the phylum Basidiomycota. With its bright yellow colouration and distinctive goblet shape, it is one of the more easily identified edible fungi in hardwood, coniferous, or mixed forests.
Description
C. cibarius is a bright yellow to yellow-orange mushroom of medium to large size, with false gills as the spore-bearing surface. The cap may be slightly depressed. It has a central, fleshy stem. It has been reported to have a sweet, fruity apricot-like odour.
This mushroom grows throughout North America and Europe, where it is highly regarded as a prize edible.
