The Cornelius W. Lawrence was a fireboat commissioned in New York City on November 13, 1907.[1] She was named after a former mayor Cornelius W. Lawrence, and one of Lawrence's grand-daughters commissioned her.

The City put the vessel up for sale in June 1955.[2]

Operational career

On June 7, 1920, she assisted in the rescue of twelve socialites, whose yacht had run around in the tide-race at Hell's Gate.[3] Small boats of the Harbor Police performed the actual rescue, but the Lawrence's searchlights played an important role in illuminating the wreck.
