Artist's Colony, Darmstadt/Definition

a group of artists as well as a set of residential buildings erected in the Mathildenhöhe neighborhood in Darmstadt. The colony was established in 1899 by the Grand Duke of Hesse and included several artist's houses and worker housing at its zenith prior to World War I.
