Henry Cabot Lodge was a Senator from Massachusetts. He was a central and powerful figure in the US Congress until his death in 1924. He was active in the Immigrant Restriction League]] in Massachusetts. He advocated for literacy tests as a means of limiting immigrants and types of immigrants coming into the US. He and Albert J. Beveridge]] and Theodore Roosevelt]] were responsible for establishing the modern U. S. navy. He was also instrumental in blocking passage of the Versailles Treaty]] the Senate in 1919. His strongest condemnation was against the League of Nations]] which he believed would limit U.S. freedom in foreign policy. |
