(1879-1946) Count and son of Field Marshal Masatake Terauchi, who emphasized obedience to the Emperor and an end of factionalism in the Imperial Japanese Army; commanded Southern Area Army at the end of the war, including the Philippines; Tomoyuki Yamashita's superior officer but too sick to surrender or be arrested
