In complementary and alternative medicine, hypericum, also called St John's wort may have medicinal purposes.

Pharmacology

A component of hypericum, hyperforin, may act as a serotonin uptake inhibitor.[1]

Clinical purposes

Hypericum may help treat mild depression.[2]
