Illinois is a U.S. state in the midwestern region of the country, which became a the 21st state in 1818. It is a major economic and cultural area, containing the third largest city in the country, Chicago; its smaller capital is in Springfield, Illinois.

There is little question that Abraham Lincoln is forever associated with Illinois.
