John Ronald Reuel Tolkien(1892-1973) was professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford University famous for his work as the author of the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. Tolkien was born on January 3 1892 in Bloemfontein, South Africa but moved to the Midlands after the death of his father in 1896.
