Paul Anthony Samuelson (born May 15, 1915, in Gary, Indiana) is an American economist known for his work in many fields of economics. He was awarded the John Bates Clark Medal in 1947 and was sole recipient of the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel ( also imprecisely called "Nobel Prize in Economics" ) in 1970, the second year of the Prize, "for the scientific work through which he has developed static and dynamic economic theory and actively contributed to raising the level of analysis in economic science".
