Phu Tho Province of Vietnam is part of the Red River Delta, at the apex of the delta pointing toward the northeast mountainous provinces and the Sino-Vietnamese border. Its northern neighbors are Yen Bai and Tuyen Quang Provinces, with Hoa Binh Province to its south. On the eastern border are Vinh Phuc and Ha Tay Provinces and Son La Province on the west.

Its capita is Viet Tri City which is 80 km northwest of Hanoi.

National Highway 2 (Vietnam), which runs into Yunnan Province of China, runs through the province, and passes Noi Bai International Airport to Hanoi, where it links to National Highway 5 (Vietnam) to Haiphong. down to Hanoi and is also linked with the National Highway 18 (Vietnam) runs to Cai Lan Port in Quang Ninh Province, and then to the south. It is on the Hanoi-Lao Cai railroad, which connects to the main railroad system.

Its economy is primarily based on agriculture, including direct cultivation of crops, especially tea; crop-based industry such as paper production; and support such as fertilizer. There are some tourist attractions, and it is a transportation hub.
