Seth, or Set, was originally the god of desert storms and the wind. He was always a dark and mood deity, but before he became god of chaos he was seen as a great ally of his brother and sister Osiris and Isis, as well as being the partner of his sister Nephthys.
Eventually Seth came to be seen as the god of evil and chaos. He was constantly at war with the "good" gods, in particular and Osiris and then his son Horus. Soon he became connected with the great serpent Apep. This serpent would attempt to stop the chariot of Ra from crossing the sky each day.
