:::I myself feel that to use "rôle" in today's English is pedantic, pretentious, affected, and essentially incorrect. I '''thought''' that maybe ''The New Yorker'' might use it (they still use ö in coördinate, for instance) but I just found a recent ''New Yorker'' issue online and they too are spelling it "role". I myself '''might''' write something like, "Marlon Brando played the rôle of Mr. Christian in ''Mutiny on the Bounty'', but in my own life Christianity plays no role at all." But I doubt it. Milt, I were you, I would change it back. Don't understand

- I myself feel that to use "rôle" in today's English is pedantic, pretentious, affected, and essentially incorrect. I thought that maybe The New Yorker might use it (they still use ö in coördinate, for instance) but I just found a recent New Yorker issue online and they too are spelling it "role". I myself might write something like, "Marlon Brando played the rôle of Mr. Christian in Mutiny on the Bounty, but in my own life Christianity plays no role at all." But I doubt it.
