The Sound of Music is a musical play by Rodgers & Hammerstein. It is one of their most successful collaborations and the songs from the play have become standards across all genres of Western music.

The musical was based on a German film version of The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, a best-selling autobiographical work by Maria Augusta Trapp. The original starred Mary Martin as Maria. The film version starred Julie Andrews as Maria and Christopher Plummer as Georg, Ritter Von Trapp. It was critically panned, but became a commercial success and one of the top-grossing movies of all time when figures are adjusted for inflation.[1]

The film also won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director (Robert Wise)(1965). It has been selected by the National Film Registry (United States)

Songs include the title song, ‘’Climb Ev’ry Mountain’’, ‘’Do-re-mi’’, and ‘’Sixteen Going on Seventeen’’.
