In Islamic jurisprudence, waqf describes. holding certain property and preserving it for the confined benefit of certain desirable goals and forbidding others. Literally, its Arabic meaning is hold, confinement or prohibition. It is often part of the name of Islamic philanthropic organizations.
Sometimes, the term is used to express Palestinian rights to land; there is a Minister for Waqf in the Palestinian Authority.
