Auditory system
From Citizendium, the Citizens' Compendium
The term auditory system refers to a sensory system for the processing of sound pressure by animals. Evolutionarily, it is a variation of mechanosensory systems, and it came about with the transition from water-based to land-based ways of life, e.g. in insects and tetrapods.
