Uday Hussein (1964-2003) was the elder son of Saddam Hussein, still a part of the inner circle but not given as much responsibility as his younger brother, Qusay, due to a pattern of unstable behavior. One of his remaining functions was organizing the Saddam Fedayeen irregulars for the Iraq War, who caused an unexpected amount of difficulty with unskilled but fanatical raids on supply lines. He also stayed head of the Iraqi Olympic committee, where he motivated losing athletes with torture.

Some of his unpredictability and cruelty have been attributed to constant pain from wounds suffered in a 1995 assassination attempt. [1]

Uday and Qusay were killed fighting with U.S. troops on July 22, 2003.
