Caraway is the common name for the biennial herb Carum carvi and for its seed, used as a flavoring.
The plant is native to Europe and western Asia. It grows wild in open, grassy areas. As an ornamental garden plant, it needs full sun and deep soil, and is propagated from seed in the spring.
The seeds are most commonly used to flavor rye bread.
