Gulag [r]: The system of forced labor camps of the Soviet Union, often considered a state within a state; acronym for the Soviet bureaucratic institution, Glavnoe Upravlenie ispravitel’no-trudovykh LAGerei (Main Administration of Corrective Labor Camps)
