Matt Smith (born 28th October 1982) is an English actor who in January 2009 was announced as the eleventh to take on the lead role in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. Smith will appear as the 'Doctor' in a new series starting in spring 2010; he will be the youngest actor to take on the role.[1]

Prior to winning the lead role in Doctor Who, Smith was relatively unknown to the public, but appeared in several drama series including the BBC's Party Animals and The Ruby in the Smoke, the latter alongside former Doctor Who star Billie Piper.[2]
