Tail [r]: An appendage on many animals, particularly vertebrates such as a dog or cat or tiger or elephant or squirrel, which is attached to the rear end of the body. It has many functions such as locomotion, balance, discouraging biting insects by brushing back and forth, signaling other animals, and so forth.
