Larry, I suggest a link to an article on "improvisation", which would cover all instruments. You could remove some of the text here, and simply refer to the importance of improvisation as an evolution of unwritten music. Do we have an article on "folk music"? [Just saw that you have a link to an unwritten one] We should, and also stress its important role in the evolution of western classical music (e,g, Liszt, Chopin, Bartok, etc etc). This article could then also be linked with tthe folk music one. --Martin Baldwin-Edwards 18:41, 14 September 2007 (CDT)
Yes to all of the above. There is always a question about how the "expository landscape" is to be divided up. I imagine we could have a stub-length article saying, "The fiddle is the violin played in folk music," and a few other things that make the article lean on other concepts. But this wouldn't really give people a self-contained introduction to the fiddle. To have reasonably self-contained narratives, we have to be content with some repetition, I think. --Larry Sanger 18:53, 14 September 2007 (CDT)
- True. What is more important is to provide context and links to as-yet unwritten articles. --Martin Baldwin-Edwards 19:15, 14 September 2007 (CDT)
