John Buchanan is a member of the Social Studies department at Hastings High School in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. He has a BA in Russian and East European Studies and masters in History from Yale University. He has traveled extensively throughout Europe, having also lived and studied in Russia, Croatia, Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.

In the course of his professional career Mr. Buchanan has also worked for over eight years in information technology where he specialized in e-Commerce web applications. An epiphany in the middle of the night moved him at the end of 2001 to undertake a Post-BA Secondary Education Program at SUNY New Paltz. Afterwards, he began teaching Global Studies and US History at Oneonta High School in Upstate New York. He currently splits his home between New York City and a small remote town in the Catskills, where his two dogs are infamous for their incessant barking.
