Welcome Page

Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! Ruth Ifcher 22:03, 6 October 2008 (CDT)

Some ideas for contributions

Hi Laith, welcome aboard CZ. Ruth has already given you some hints as to how things work here in general, and I wish to add some more practical hints on what possibilities you have to contribute. For a start, I just took some of the keywords from the information you supplied upon registration, and display below the current state of related CZ articles (for icon documentation, see Template:Rpl/Doc):

  • Developing Article Ecology: The study of the distribution and abundance of organisms and how they are affected by the environment. [e]
  • Stub Behavior: The actions or reactions of an object or organism, usually in relation to a stimulus or its environment. [e]
  • Stub Biochemistry: The chemistry of living things; a field of both biology and chemistry. [e]
  • Developing Article Evolution: A change over time in the proportions of individual organisms differing genetically. [e]
  • Approved Article Biology: The science of life — of complex, self-organizing, information-processing systems living in the past, present or future. [e]
  • Approved Article Chemistry: The science of matter, or of the electrical or electrostatical interactions of matter. [e]
  • Developing Article Anthropology: The holistic study of humankind; from the Greek words anthropos ("human") and logia ("study"). [e]
  • Developing Article Human uniqueness: A theoretical concept in evolutionary studies, often used in discussions about the evolution of biological traits found in humans. [e]
  • Developed Article Geography: Study of the surface of the Earth and the activities of humanity upon it. [e]
  • Stub Conservation biology: The study and management of ecosystems, with the aim of maintaining biodiversity and preventing mass extinctions. [e]
  • Developing Article Biodiversity: The study of the range of life forms in a given ecosystem. [e]
  • Field research: Add brief definition or description
  • Stub Kenya: A country of 38 million in East Africa. [e]
  • Stub California (U.S. state): A state of the United States located on the west coast of the North American continent. [e]
  • Stub Los Angeles, California: a city in southern California and the second-largest urban center in the U.S. (after New York). [e]

In order to find articles dealing with similar topics, it's also worth looking at the Related Article subpages of such an article.

Finally, in case you are involved in homework assignments (on either side), please consider doing so via Eduzendium articles.

Looking forward to fruitful collaborative editing, Daniel Mietchen 05:17, 7 October 2008 (CDT)

Welcome from Anthony.Sebastian

Hi Laith: Happy to see you joined CZ. Perhaps you can convince your brother, Kyle, to do likewise. Pull out those essays you did for Jared Diamond, email them to me (Anthony_Sebastian@msn.com), I'll look them over, get some advice from colleagues, see where they might fit in (as new articles, edits of existing articles, signed articles). Perhaps you have some classmates, present or past, who'd like to participate in CZ. Contact them, or if you prefer, give me some heads-up on them, I'll email them, saying you referred them. Good suggestions from Ruth and Daniel — give them some thought/action. Happy writing. --Anthony.Sebastian 21:46, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

BTW: I created a personal sandbox for you to practice on: User:Laith Bander/SandBox. --Anthony.Sebastian 22:35, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
