Acronyms

Original

I really do not think that this article is adequately NPOV because it only summarizes one side.

He is right. It also seems to contain OR which is not allowed in policy.

With the acronym removed and "translation" placed in brackets

I really do not think that this article is adequately — (The Constabulary has removed an initialism here. Please replace this with plain English. ) — [neutral] because it only summarizes one side.

He is right. It also seems to contain Template:Soup [original research] which is not allowed in policy.

With just the acronym removed

I really do not think that this article is adequately — (The Constabulary has removed an initialism here. Please replace this with plain English. ) — because it only summarizes one side.

He is right. It also seems to contain Template:Soup which is not allowed in policy.

Images

It may actually be better to just deal with this matter off-wiki, I'm not sure.

The first is for media already deleted. The second is for images that need to be deleted but you are first giving the user a chance to correct the problem (should be used sparingly, and reserved generally for new and possibly naive contributors).

Template:Deletedimage

Hi. We appreciate very much your contributions to the Citizendium. I was hoping you could help clear up a matter about the images you recently uploaded. They are lacking clear copyright and source data and need to have it as soon as practicable to avoid deletion. To fix the problem, please review the images you uploaded (click on "my contributions" at the upper-right to re-trace your steps or see the links I added) in light of Images Help—Copyrights. If you need additional help, just ask a constable or leave a message on my talk page and I'll be more than glad to assist. —

Include acronym in template?

How about writing the template to include the particular acronym? This would give more versatility down the road for how you wish to present these templates. For example:

I really do not think that this article is adequately NPOV because it only summarizes one side.

This template could then include any text you wish that is specific to that particular acronym or just include the specific acronym in a generic text. Best it can be changed at a later date if desired. Chris Day (talk) 13:27, 16 April 2007 (CDT)

I like the idea! :-) Stephen Ewen 15:11, 16 April 2007 (CDT)

using acronym template

I just made some changes to the Acronym template that can be used in the following format:

Test version of:
I really do not think that this article is adequately NPOV because it only summarizes one side.
will give the following readout:
I really do not think that this article is adequately — (The Constabulary has removed an initialism here. Please use plain English instead, for example, "unbiased" or "neutral" ) — because it only summarizes one side.

Due to the 'if statement' the same template can also be used in the following format:

Test version of:
I really do not think that this article is adequately Acronym because it only summarizes one side.
will give the following readout:
I really do not think that this article is adequately — (The Constabulary has removed an initialism here. Please replace this with plain English. ) — because it only summarizes one side.

Is this more useful? Chris Day (talk) 15:43, 16 April 2007 (CDT)

This is great, Chris, and you are clearly quite advanced with making templates (I am novice in the matter). Regarding the if, am I correct to assume this can be made to be any number of ifs? —–Stephen Ewen 22:49, 16 April 2007 (CDT)
Yes, you can nest the if statements and there are other operators you can use such as if equal, if exist. Chris Day (talk) 23:12, 16 April 2007 (CDT)
Update: I just changed the acronym template so it too uses the master list describe below for the soup template. Chris Day (talk) 01:25, 17 April 2007 (CDT)

using soup template

I just made some changes to the Soup template so that it utilises a master list of acronyms (see Template:Acronymlist). This master list can be continually updated and maintained by the constables. This will work using the following format:

Test version of:
I really do not think that this article is adequately NPOV because it only summarizes one side.
will give the following readout:
I really do not think that this article is adequately Template:Soup because it only summarizes one side.

Due to the 'if statement' the same template can also be used in the following format:

Test version of:
I really do not think that this article is adequately Soup because it only summarizes one side.
will give the following readout:
I really do not think that this article is adequately Template:Soup because it only summarizes one side.

Is this more versatile? Chris Day (talk) 00:35, 17 April 2007 (CDT)

Hi, thanks for contributing to Citizendium!

I noticed that one or more articles you've uploaded appear to contain material from Wikipedia, yet the "Content is from Wikipedia? tick-box was not checked. Please allow me to make sure the policy on that is very clear in case any error is being made.

If any content of an article at Citizendium — even one sentence — came from Wikipedia and you aren't the sole author of that content, be absolutely sure you check the tick-box. It is just above the "Save page" button. If you are the sole author, however, please make it clear on the relevant talk page by and post a link to the Wikipedia article history giving evidence of such. You can use the WPauthor template to assist you.

Please kindly review your contributions in this light. There are many reasons why we must be completely above board in this matter!

You can always find the policy on this at Introduction to CZ for Wikipedians: New and unfamiliar practices.

Thanks again! And do let me know if there is ever any way I can assist you!

The above is made by wpcheckbox and is at Template:Wpcheckbox.

A few words about workgroups

We are indeed happy to have you in the community. We would also like to introduce you to Citizendium's Workgroups and encourage you to--

 1. Join a workgroup if you haven't already
 2. Help us add workgroup category tags to articles, especially any articles you create
 3. Help us spread the word about workgroups within the CZ community

What are workgroups? To answer that question, I'd like to give you a quick tour.

 • Start by checking the various workgroups we have at CZ: List of Workgroups. This link can also be found in the left navigation-bar in the 2nd box (Project Pages), 3rd link in that box (Workgroups). The Workgroup Home(s) can be found in the 2nd column in the List of Workgroups.
 • For the purposes of this tour, please take a look at the Biology Workgroup Home: CZ:Biology_Workgroup.
 • Now let's take a look at the first table on the Biology Workgroup Home (below).

Workgroups are no longer used for group communications, but they still are used to group articles into fields of interest. Each article is assigned to 1-3 Workgroups via the article's Metadata.

Article statuses:

 • In the 2nd column, find the link that says, "all articles," which lists all articles that users have placed at the bottom of their articles.
 • Now click on the "recent changes" link underneath the "all articles" in the 2nd column in the top table. This lists all recent changes in articles that have been tagged . In one glance, you can view all the changes that happened while you were away! Feel free to click on all the links to get an idea how the information for your workgroup is organized. All these lists are populated by articles that have the categories properly placed at the bottom of their pages.

This completes your virtual-tour of CZ workgroups. I hope you can see the usefulness of having all articles in Citizendium tagged properly with your Workgroup categories. Make sure to add the Workgroup category labels to your new articles. This is an important part of the Approval process.

Be sure to join a workgroup and take part in this opportunity to collaborate with others who have similar interests as you. You can see what others are working on in the Workgroup recent changes and join in! Remember, we want you to be bold in your contributions at Citizendium.

To add yourself to a workgroup, use the form , etc., and add it to your user page. Substitute the proper work group for "Education" in the example, and your name-Last, First for the names in the example.

Do not add yourself to the Editors list, only CZ staff add "Editors" to user pages after proper review of applications is completed. To apply to become an editor, please see Editor Application Review Procedure.

To add a workgroup category tag to an article, use the form at the bottom of the article. Substitute in the proper workgroup for "Education" in the example.
