:Thanks. Actually, thanks to you they will see a lot of edits in the 'recent changes' list specific to each workgroup.

It sometimes helps to have eyes on terminology, especially when a well-intentioned "native" author is working from journalistic sources rather than direct experience in the operations of politics. You have a good eye.
:I think I've done over 140 people now, about a third of the absent editors (all Natural Sciences workgroups, plus Engineering). So far not much luck coaxing many people back, but I have tried the 'hook' of pointing out that they have public bios here that they might at least like to update. I have personalised the template I've been using to point to the workgroups of which they are members... this takes quite a bit of time and ideally is something a robot should do, but we don't see many robots around here these days. There are certainly people labelled 'inactive' who have been editing in the last few months; this could be fixed by a robot, but I lack the technical skill to run one. While I do have considerable direct political experience, I learn things from visitors. I'll never forget the observation of a friend, Swedish-born and European raised, now living in the U.S. and indeed teaching U.S. history as she finishes her doctorate. I was playing tourguide in Washington, DC, where I lived for about 40 years and know rather well, and we had first visited the Lincoln Memorial (which still has an emotional effect on me like few others). We walked two blocks to the Vietnam War memorial, "the wall", and Pia Kate commented "how appropriate these two monuments are so close!"
::That is something I have seen working with the "Special Pages" - in some cases the lists are not updating on anything like a regular basis. Maybe there is a central problem to do with CZ statistics not updating regularly - sounds like one for the tech team. David Finn 14:51, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Puzzled, I asked her to explain, and she asked "weren't these the two times your country had the greatest internal instability?"  One might make a couple of other suggestions, but it was a profound insight. Howard C. Berkowitz 07:38, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Hey John--when you awake, please join us at the write-a-thon, to discuss thoughts (and books) Aleta Curry 23:36, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Hello. I tried really hard to find out what the walking speed of the E0 prototype was. I'm afraid that the sentence above states "at the time it was really difficult to reach 0.5km/h" rather than saying "E0 walked at 0.5km/h." Do you know what it means? Thank you. == Obama personal article vs. administration article ==
EC
What is your thinking about how closely the articles should be tracking? For example, I put material about the National Security Council reforms into the administration but not the personal article, because Obama himself was not especially part of the discussion. True, the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs was talking about his official relationship to the President, but I felt it wasn't James Jones talking about his relationship with Barack Obama. Howard C. Berkowitz 04:59, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
Hey John, I have nominated you for the EC election. I don't think there is any mechanism for you to know that without research or me telling you so here I am. You have a good overview of CZ past and present and some good ideas about its future so I hope you will consider accepting the nomination. David Finn 09:20, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
:Thanks for adding more to this article. Yes, I agree with you - material on the personal article should relate more firmly to Obama himself, and the activities of the many members of his administration are for the Obama administration article. :Thank you and I will certainly take the nomination very seriously. John Stephenson 05:06, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

You've been nominated by a fellow Citizendium member to be a candidate for election to the Citizendium charter drafting committee.

If you haven't been following the discussion in the forums, we're getting ready to establish a charter for Citizendium that outlines the project's goals, ideals, and basic structure.  To get the process moving, we put together a plan for electing a group of Citizens to compose a draft of the charter, which will then be submitted for community review.  You can find more about the plan here.

You've been nominated by another Citizen to be a candidate for election to that committee. The next step is up to you: you may either accept or decline the nomination by going here and following the instructions at the top of the page.

It would be really helpful to know the provenance of the picture of George FoxI have developed the stub article on him, but am reluctant to add the picture without knowing more about itIt appears to be an imaginative reconstruction rather than derived from an actual portrait. The latest biographer of Fox (Larry Ingle) is reduced to using a "supposed" portrait extracted from a caricature of a Quaker meeting (as evidenced in a book by Rosemary Moore).  The picture you have provided could conceivably have been constructed as a younger version of that image.  --Martin Wyatt 19:24, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

The speedydelete template causes problems when the file is transcluded. Definitions are often transcluded (by the r-template).

Returning to Citizendium

Your message to inactive users is well worded and very encouraging. I think the link to their contributions is a nice touch. Good job! David Finn 13:25, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. Actually, thanks to you they will see a lot of edits in the 'recent changes' list specific to each workgroup.
I think I've done over 140 people now, about a third of the absent editors (all Natural Sciences workgroups, plus Engineering). John Stephenson 14:43, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
That is something I have seen working with the "Special Pages" - in some cases the lists are not updating on anything like a regular basis. Maybe there is a central problem to do with CZ statistics not updating regularly - sounds like one for the tech team. David Finn 14:51, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
