Matt Smith (born 28th October, 1982) is an English actor who is best-known for playing the lead role in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. In January 2009, he was announced as the eleventh actor to appear as the 'Doctor' on television, in a new series starting in spring 2010; he is the youngest actor to take on the role.[1] Smith left the series in 2013.
Prior to winning the lead role in Doctor Who, Smith was relatively unknown to the public, but appeared in several drama series including the BBC's Party Animals and The Ruby in the Smoke, the latter alongside former Doctor Who star Billie Piper.[2]
