Roger, I left a comment on [[Talk:Academy]]. This is a fun article, but I don't know the field well enough to do more than comment. Time to start a new talk page. Roger A. Lohmann (talk) 22:53, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
rain garden photos
I added a couple of photos to Rain garden, but I'm not all that happy with them. If you decide not to keep them, please just remove them from the wiki (or ask me to). I think I can get better ones but these two are close to my house. Also, they look prettiest in spring and early summer. Anyway, don't feel obligated to keep these or use them in the article.Pat Palmer (talk) 18:07, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
Nonprofit_corporation
Hi Roger! I was looking briefly over Nonprofit_corporation and wondering where we might include something about recent changes in U. S. tax laws that affect charitable organizations, whereby it is more difficult for donors actually to end up deducting their charitable contributions. I can't remember how it was done, under Trump, but it seems like they just made it so that there is no payoff for giving to charity in terms of tax write-offs for most people. Is that right? Is this covered in any of the business articles in The Citizendium that you know of? Or if not, where would we want to summarize the tax changes made under Trump? Or am I opening a horrible can of worms?Pat Palmer (talk) 02:55, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- Actually, it's more complicated (and dynamic) than that. As I understand it, the original Trump tax relief bill (2017?) took the charitable deduction away completely for those who don't itemize, but the CARES act restored it (temporarily or permanently, I'm not sure.) My accountant tells me also that for this year at least, the 20% ceiling on total deductions was raised to 60%. Adding something on that here and elsewhere (e.g., in fundraising) is a great idea, but I will need to confirm all this before writing it up. It is a bit of a can of worms, but definitely not a horrible one; just a bit tricky. I'll get started on it and see what turns up. Roger A. Lohmann (talk) 03:04, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- Roger, I had no idea about any of that. Thanks in advance for anything you can come up with.Pat Palmer (talk) 03:09, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- Pat, I didn't either until I asked an unrelated question of my accountant. I guess that's the nature of modern legislative rule-making. All of this is apparently buried in the thousands of pages of unrelated legislative acts.

Thank you for encouragement
Roger, Thanks for reading the ad blurb in my sandbox. Funny, I was just thinking about this idea and wondering if it were worth keeping on keeping on. It's helpful to be encouraged, and I thank you. Reminds me to get working on the sticky matter of turning the wiki into a charitable organization where people can donate with tax benefits.Pat Palmer (talk) 14:53, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Write-a-Thon this weekend
This Sunday, we're getting together on the wiki for the first time in a decade to create and edit articles loosely themed on planets, stars, galaxies and cosmic entities - or anything that involves words like those! For more information, see What's a Write-a-thon? etc. Hope to see you there! John Stephenson (talk) 16:34, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- Our Write-a-Thon theme this weekend is 'Messaging and Missives'. Please join us! John Stephenson (talk) 22:45, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Starting a new series
- This is an evolving biographical project. I wrote this article on Jon Van Til for Wikipedia in 2016 and the trolls who claim to be editors there have been grousing about various aspects of it ever since. I had planned to accompany it with an entire series of other important pioneer figures in nonprofit, voluntary action and third sector studies but the experience there was so unappealing that I simply stopped. I'm going to try to do the same series on CZ and am setting this article up as a model for the kinds of information I will be requesting directly from the subjects, and in the case of a few who have died, of their representatives. I plan to make considerably more use of the Related Pages features of CZ in doing this, drawing together many different articles. Roger A. Lohmann (talk) 19:15, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
